Quit4Life exists because smoking is the leading preventable cause of serious illness and death in Canada. In 2003, 18% of Canadian Adolescents 15-19 were smokers, down from the 28% reported in 1999. If adolescents who smoke have the opportunity to participate in cessation programs that are suitable for them, the rate of adolescent smoking likely will continue to decline.
Application/relevance to curriculum:
Substance Use and Abuse and Risk-Taking Behaviour expectations of the Healthy Active Living Education curriculum.
Comments:
A comprehensive smoking cessation program. Program can be used as a whole, or blackline masters may be copied to supplement Healthy Active Living Education curriculum.
