Peer led facilitation program with supporting curriculum

A multi-faceted program that focuses on substance abuse prevention through the provision of small group problem-solving activities, active discussions, leadership activities, and creation of friendships. The program allows the younger students to benefit from the experiences and information provided by older students. Trained secondary school student leaders work in teams with small groups of Grades 8 or 9 students, providing structured sessions that are 60-85 minutes in length. Secondary school staff is required to select leaders, coordinate training event and liaison with other teachers.

Comments:

This program might require the need of an outside agency (e.g., Public health) to work with the school to train leaders, liaise with staff and assist with program implementation.
