Format:
A three-part unit allowing dramatic arts teachers to prepare their students to create and present a student-run workshop for their peers and/or a docudrama on the topic of substance use and abuse.

Approach:
Designed to engage drama students to reflect on their own experience about the use of substances in their lives and community, and to explore interpersonal strategies to share with their audiences through varied drama techniques.
The unit activities combine research into substance use/abuse with dramatic arts skills of communication, drama as a collaborative art form and ensemble approaches to assist students in creating a workshop or docudrama on the topic.
Application/relevance to curriculum:
Supports Grades 10, 11 and 12 Dramatic Arts course profiles. Includes unit planning notes, assessment and evaluation, teaching/learning strategies and resources for the activities. Teachers are encouraged to adapt the material for educational purposes.
