Take Action in Secondary Schools
SECTION I:
Understanding Take Action in Secondary Schools
Understanding the Four Action Areas of Take Action in Secondary Schools
Education and Instruction
This section provides links to curriculum support documents as well as ideas and suggestions as to how the teaching and learning strategies on the topic of substance use and abuse can be integrated into other subject areas and shared among school community partners. Links to quality curriculum-based support can lead to significant improvement in student's knowledge, skills and health-related behaviour.
Policies and Guidelines
This section provides information to support policy development processes, prevention and intervention strategies, and alternative sanctions. The policies and guidelines will support work in other Action Areas and will reinforce key messages built on school community values.
Communicating about Substance Use Prevention
This section provides educators, students, parents, and community partners with a review of resources and suggested strategies that can be used to develop healthy and supportive school community environments, reinforce curriculum health messages, and create opportunities for adopting health promoting behaviours.
Programs and Services in Your School Community
This section provides links to Canadian and international organizations working actively in the field of substance use, prevention and education. Resources and information available through a number of these organizations can be used to assist schools in engaging with other education and health professionals to support service delivery and quality programs within the school and the broader community.*
