Format:  This 2009 document is a summary of the four publications below relating to taking action on alcohol problems and issues across different populations. This document acts as a synthesis of these issues, while proposing comprehensive health promotion solutions that include the development of policy.

 

 

Audience:  Administrators, educators, guidance councilors, health professionals, student leaders, and others

Application/relevance to curriculum:

This document is a summary of four past publications related to taking action on alcohol problems and issues across different populations previously printed by the Alcohol Policy Network. This document is to act as a general synthesis of these issues while proposing comprehensive health promotion solutions including the development of policy. It is still encouraged, however, to refer to the past publications on specific populations for a detailed look into that area.  Additionally, this document is to help support the implementation of the 2008 Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS). A joint initiative of three ministries: the Ministry of Health Promotion (MHP), the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS), and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC). The objectives of this document are as follows:

          To raise the awareness of the role of alcohol policies in addressing harms

          To emphasize the importance of developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating alcohol policies

          To outline steps and tools to implement alcohol policies in organizations

          To provide a succinct, but thorough look at alcohol policy development
