Everyone Jump
Everyone Jump is a fun, interactive music CD and Teacher's Guide for Grades 4 to 6, designed to teach students about type 2 diabetes.
A cross-curricular resource, designed by teachers for teachers, Everyone Jump raises awareness of the importance of regular physical activity and proper nutrition in preventing type 2 diabetes.
Funding for Everyone Jump was originally provided to Ophea by the Government of Ontario. The resource has since evolved into Everyone Jump 2009/2010 and continues to be available through funding support by Novo Nordisk Canada Inc.
Background Information
In March 2005, all Ontario Elementary schools were sent a free copy of the Everyone Jump resource including a music CD and teacher's guide. In September 2005, Novo Nordisk Canada partnered with Ophea to deliver a diabetes awareness and prevention pilot initiative to 21 elementary schools in Ontario based on Ophea's existing Everyone Jump program.
As a result of the success of the pilot initiative, Novo Nordisk Canada expanded Everyone Jump... Kids Changing Diabetes for the past few years to include schools in 5 provinces (BC, AB, ON, NS, NF). And for the first time, this year the program is offered in Saskatchewan. Since 2005, the program has reached close to 70,000 students across Canada.
In 2007/08, a new element was added to the program, the Everyone Jump Daily Physical Activity (DPA) Resouce, which was distributed to 2,354 elementary schools in Ontario. In 2008/09, Everyone Jump 2008/2009 expanded to include all public and Catholic schools in Ontario, as well as select elementary schools in 4 provinces across Canada.
In 2009/2010, the Educational Challenge Manual was refreshed to include new and updated lesson plans and even more lesson plan were made available online.
