Everybody jump, jump - Langley Times

Alex Hope Elementary School students were jumping for joy, literally, after winning a national education challenge on how to prevent Type 2 diabetes.  Alex Hope took top prize in the country, beating out 400 classes and 9,600 students across Canada and was rewarded with and “Everyone Jump Celebration Concert” for the entire school, featuring live music that got the kids on their feet, dancing, jumping and singing.  ‘Everyone Jump, Kids Changing Diabetes’ is a free program for Grade 5 classrooms that teaches kids the importance of regular physical activity and healthy eating in preventing Type 2 diabetes.  Type 2 diabetes has reached what some are calling epidemic proportions in children, who are not generally as physically active as they used to be.  As well, the abundance of sugary foods in a child’s diet has also created the upswing in diagnoses.  The school received a plaque for the win.
